Desert View’s Jacob Ramirez commits to Lyon

Desert View running back Jacob Ramirez went from not being able to play in 2019 because of a knee injury to landing a scholarship at college scholarship on Thursday.

Ramirez committed to Lyon College, an NAIA program at Batesville, Ark.

“I chose Lyon because they’ve been recruiting me for a long time now,” Ramirez mentioned. “I’ve talked to the coaches many times and we’ve built a relationship. I felt that me and the coaches bonded well and that we could have an awesome experience.

“They play games in Arizona (at Arizona Christian at Glendale) so I’ll be able to come back to my home state and have my friends and family see me play. The school and football program sounded awesome and everything played an important role on why I committed.”

Ramirez, 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, rushed for 1,144 yards on 226 carries with 11 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018. After missing all of last season, Ramirez played in only two games with Desert View during the fall because of COVID-19.

With Ramirez’s commitment, a total of 28 local Class of 2021 prospects have committed or signed:
