Salpointe’s Brees McCraren commits to Fort Lewis

Salpointe senior defensive end Brees McCraren, who received a preferred walk-on offer from Arizona last month, has decided to attend Fort Lewis (Colo.) College on a scholarship next season.

McCraren, 6-foot and 245 pounds, is the 33rd local Class of 2021 prospect to make a commitment to a college and the third from Salpointe.

Fernando Torres, a tight end, is bound for St. Olaf, and running back David Cordero is headed to Ottawa.

McCraren is also the second local player to make a pledge to Fort Lewis, an NCAA Division II program. Cienega linebacker Josiah Flores signed with Skyhawks earlier this month.

“I chose Fort Lewis because I felt in my gut that it was just the right place to go and the best fit for me,” McCraren said. “Another big thing was since it’s a smaller school, I feel like I will be able to be hands-on and learn from my professors better rather than being inside a auditorium with 400 kids in a class.”

Here is the list of the 33 seniors who have made a commitment:
