— QB Treyson Bourguet, a senior, completed 12 of 19 pass attempts for 213 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 37 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown.

— RB Anthony Wilhite, a senior, rushed for 86 yards on 19 carries

— WR Bryce Robinson, a senior, tallied three receptions for 84 yards

— WR/CB Antonio Martinez, a senior, had three catches for 64 yards and a TD and also had a game-saving interception with 31 seconds left.

— The Lancers start 9-1 in the Eric Rogers era.

CIENEGA

— QB Brayden Cherry, a junior, completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 252 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions

— TE Brody Kallman, a senior, had four receptions for 50 yards

— WR Jimmy Diaz, a sophomore, had three catches for 72 yards

— WR CJ Hangartner, a senior, tallied three receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown

— LB Ritchie McCormack, a senior, had 11 tackles

5A Marana 48, 6A Tucson 7

Elijah Joplin passed for 340 yards and four touchdowns against Tucson High to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 start for only the third time in the last 24 years (Andy Morales/AllSportsTucson.com)

MARANA

— QB Elijah Joplin, a junior, completed 21 of 29 passes for 340 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

— RB Matthew Jensen, a junior, rushed 16 times for 116 yards with two touchdowns and had six catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

— WR Chika Ebunoha, a senior, had seven catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.

— WR/DB Samuel Brown, a junior, tallied four receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown and had 11 tackles.

— LB Troy Fox, a senior, had 11 tackles, one for loss, and made a fumble recovery.

— DE Daniel Parrish, a senior, had 10 tackles

— LB Colin Bourguet, a senior, finished with eight tackles, one for loss


5A Nogales 24, 5A Cholla 3

NOGALES

— Nogales is 2-0 under Jake Teyechea after not playing a game last season due to COVID-19 protocol. Teyechea, a Nogales alum, is in his fourth season as the Apaches’ coach. His team started 3-0 in 2019.


5A Ironwood Ridge 13, 5A Campo Verde 7

IRONWOOD RIDGE

— QB Tyler Haynie, a senior, completed 10 of 20 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown, and he rushed for 45 yards on 10 carries.

— RB Jordan Thomas, a junior, rushed for 92 yards on 18 rushes, and he had four receptions for 63 yards.

— RB Landon Billings, a senior, had 112 yards rushing on 20 carries.

— LB Ethan Morrison, a senior, amassed 10 tackles, one for loss.

— DE Sam Benjamin, a senior, had seven tackles, three for loss, including two sacks

— LB Anthony Cox, a senior, had eight tackles.


5A Rincon/UHS 26, 5A Maryvale 8

RINCON/UNIVERSITY

— The Rangers (1-2) won the first game of the Khyree Copeland era. The second-year coach took over the program last year but Rincon/University played only two games because of COVID-19 protocol.

— DB Mikey Garcia had his second interception of the season.


5A Sunnyside 35, 5A Paradise Valley 7

SUNNYSIDE

— QB Deion Conde, a junior, completed 7 of 15 passes for 145 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

— RB Brock McDaniel, a senior, tallied 185 yards rushing on 16 carries with two touchdowns.

— LB Carlos Rendon, a senior, had nine tackles, one a sack.

— LB Johnny Rendon, a junior, finished with nine tackles

— SS Jose Ramirez, a junior, had seven tackles, two that were sacks.

— CB Anthony Ramirez, a sophomore, made three interceptions.


5A Mountain View 26, 4A Sahuaro 7

MOUNTAIN VIEW

— QB Will Howell, a junior, completed 17 of 20 passes for 239 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

— RB Tairiq Booker, a junior, rushed seven times for 57 yards and a touchdown.

— WR/DB Dillon Arvayo, a senior, had six catches for 93 yards and seven tackles

SAHUARO

— RB Javez Blair, senior, had 101 yards on 18 carries.

— WR Alexander Vales, a senior, had four catches for 92 yards and a touchdown


5A Flowing Wells 37, 4A Empire 21

FLOWING WELLS

— The Caballeros ended an 11-game losing streak on the road dating to the 2018 season.

EMPIRE

— QB Miles Kinney, a senior, completed 7 of 10 passes for 124 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.

— RB/LB Jake Lambert, a senior, rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries, and he tallied 17 tackles, including one for loss.

— WR/CB Jacob Puentes, a senior, had five receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns, and he recorded an interception.

— CB Ace Weissenberger, a sophomore, had eight tackles.

— DE Michael Consentino, a junior, had seven tackles, including a sack, and he had two fumble recoveries.


4A Catalina Foothills 34, 4A Pueblo 16

CATALINA FOOTHILLS

— The Falcons won their first game under new head coach Daniel Sainz, a former Santa Rita standout who was on Scott McKee’s staff at Sahuaro the previous 10 seasons.

— RB Yasuo Bean, a senior, rushed for 255 yards on 29 carries with four touchdowns.

— LB Taylor Sommerfield, a senior, tallied eight tackles.

— LB Charlie Keables, a junior, had six tackles and an interception.


4A Poston Butte 34, 4A Canyon del Oro 27

CANYON DEL ORO

— DB Chase Laux, a sophomore, had a 98-yard interception return.

— QB Caden Dawes, a junior, completed six passes, four of them touchdowns, in 12 attempts for 197 yards.

— WR Daylon Beck, a junior, had three receptions (all for touchdowns) for 135 yards.


4A Walden Grove 56, 4A Rio Rico 0

WALDEN GROVE

— QB Jason Stevens, a senior, completed 15 of 18 passes for 282 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, and he had a 38-yard touchdown run.

— RB Matthew Enriquez, a senior, had 71 yards on nine carries.

— WR Colby Gaines, a senior, had two catches (both touchdowns) for 100 yards.

— WR Duncan Hoover, a senior, tallied five receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown.

3A Safford 42, 4A Douglas 0

— Douglas was coming off an emotional 24-21 win over Bisbee, taking home The Pick for the first time since 2016, heading into this game. The Bulldogs also were beset with injuries.

— “Tough loss tonight,” Douglas coach Hunter Long said after the game to the Herald/Review. “Our guys came out flat and Safford jumped all over it and we couldn’t ever get the wheels going. Unfortunately, we came into the game missing a couple key starters that went out during the week and we lost a couple during this game. So, with a tough Thatcher team coming up we’re going to have to regroup, refocus and get a lot of things figured out this coming week.”


3A Pusch Ridge 53, 3A Sahuarita 13

PUSCH RIDGE

— QB/DB Ryan Fontaine, a senior, completed 6 of 7 passes for 118 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, and he recorded an interception.

— RB Javier Grajeda, a senior, rushed for 178 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns.

— QB Hayden Hallett, a senior, completed all three of his pass attempts for 46 yards and a touchdown and also rushed twice for 104, including an 88-yard touchdown.

— LB Tyler Mustain, a junior, had 10 tackles, two for loss, including a sack.


3A Thatcher 45, 3A Sabino 28

SABINO

— QB Cameron Hackworth, a sophomore, completed 14 of 19 pass attempts for 219 yards with two touchdowns and an interception and rushed for 66 yards on six carries with two touchdowns.

— WR Isaiah Aguirre, a senior, tallied 128 yards receiving on six catches with two touchdowns.

— LB Marius Lester, a senior, had 15 tackles.

— RB/LB Levi Miranda, a senior, had 10 tackles and also rushed for 63 yards on three carries.

— DB/WR Derek Sanchez, a senior, recorded 10 tackles and also had three catches for 46 yards.

— RB/LB Cristian Pando, a junior, had 177 yards on 17 carries with three touchdowns, and he had an interception.

— DT Mike Martinez, a junior, recorded 10 tackles, two for loss, including a sack.


2A AZ Lutheran 15, 2A Santa Cruz 14

SANTA CRUZ

— RB/LB Wyatt Ogle, a senior, had nine rushes for 112 yards.

— RB Ricardo Alaniz, a senior, 14 carries for 100 yards.

BENSON

— RB Devin Bowling, a senior, had 89 yards rushing on two carries with a touchdown, and also had a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown.

— LB Cameron McFarland, a senior, had a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown.


2A Tanque Verde 54, 2A Tombstone 6

TANQUE VERDE

— After losing two straight games, Tanque Verde got back to its winning ways under Jay Dobyns (5-2 in his second year).

— QB Lucas Franklin, a senior, completed 5 of 7 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

— RB Andy Sorbe, a senior, had eight rushes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

— RB Rory Maciulla, a senior, gained 84 yards on six carries with two touchdowns.

— WR/DB Kaden Eichinger, a senior, had three receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

— DE C.J. Lopez, a senior, had six tackles, three for loss, all sacks, and a fumble recovery.

— DT Michael Scalvo, a senior, had eight tackles.

— CB Trevor Clausen, a senior, had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

ST. DAVID

— In a battle of unbeatens at Mogollon on Friday afternoon St. David lost.

— QB Ryan Gooding, a junior, completed 14 of 21 pass attempts for 179 yards with three touchdowns.

— WR Jake Goodman, a senior, had six catches for 142 yards with one touchdown.

— S Koy Richardson, a junior, had 14 tackles.

— LB Brayden Merrill, a senior, tallied 12 tackles.


1A Baboquivari 74, 1A Cibecue 0

BABOQUIVARI

— The Warriors are 2-0 after not playing last season because of COVID-19 protocol. Pete Delgado, in his third season as Baboquivari’s head coach, is 4-2.

— RB Devin Antone, a sophomore, gained 73 yards on 10 carries for a touchdown.

— DB Jesus Buendia, a junior, had eight tackles.

SAN MANUEL

— San Manuel improved to 4-0 under alum Ernie Ivy.

— RB Noah Huerta, a senior, had seven rushes for 107 yards for three touchdowns, and he had a 27-yard touchdown reception.

— RB/LB Isaiah Lopez, a senior, had nine tackles, one for loss and also rushed for 52 yards on eight carries with a touchdown.

— LB Isaiah Huerta, a freshman, had eight tackles, including two sacks.
