Austin Madsen led CDO to its first state championship since 2015 with a home run on May 16 that ignited the game-winning rally against Salpointe, capping a season in which the centerfielder led the Dorados in batting at .405.
Madsen also was the team leader with 34 RBIs.
Madsen’s performance in the state title and his valuable production during the month for coach Jason Hisey — who earned his first state title in 17 years of coaching — merits him the Jet Sports Training Male Athlete of the Month for May.
“He is the most improved baseball player I have ever coached,” Hisey said of Madsen. “If you would have told me he was going to have the year he had after last year, I would have said you’re crazy. He’s an unbelievable learner. Just putting, applying, and getting better each and every day.”
Madsen has signed with Pima College to further his education and baseball career.
HE’S DONE IT! That’s a mad man!
Austin Madsen BLASTS this ball to deep left field for a solo home run tying this game at 3-3 in the top of the 6th inning. Absolutely no doubt about this one at Hi Corbett. #FiveToolPower@BaseballCDO (AZ) 2022 • @BaseballPima signee pic.twitter.com/RC30xi5tDh
