Before Sabino senior guard Weston Haebig rejoined his team on Jan. 10 following seven to eight weeks out with a broken elbow, the Sabercats were 6-9 overall. They were in the midst of losing seven out of their previous eight games at that point.

Since his return, Sabino is 7-2, including a 5-2 record in January in which he averaged 26.8 points per game. His performance, leading the Sabercats to an 8-2 record in the 3A South, merits Haebig the honor of being the Jet Sports Training Male Athlete of the Month for January.

Haebig, who is averaging 27.7 points and 3.7 steals per game this season, is approaching 1,000 career points. He is at 951.

The Sabercats end their regular season Wednesday with a home game against Tanque Verde at 7 p.m.
