Former Pusch Ridge basketball coach David Thomas, instrumental in the development of basketball talent with the Tucson Power Basketball Academy, has accepted an assistant coaching position with Colorado Christian University.
Thomas requested that he address what he calls the “Tucson Basketball Community” with this letter:
Dear Tucson Basketball Community,
THANK YOU! That doesn’t sum up how grateful I am to the Tucson community. Since moving back in 2011, I have been given so much help and so many opportunities and I am extremely blessed and fortunate to be a native of Tucson.
Though I owe everyone a great deal of gratitude, I’d like to give a special thank you to a few individuals and groups.
First and foremost I need to thank my wife Ashley whom without, none of this would have been possible. From working long hours to making sure you and Landon were at as many games as possible, you’ve been there through thick and thin!
I want to thank Coach Brian Peabody of Pima Community College and his staff of Mike Morgan and Matt Minder. You all took me in when I first moved back and I learned so much from all of you. I truly believe Coach Morgan and Coach Minder are the most underrated coaches in town; there is zero doubt in my mind both could be successful head coaches! You all taught me so much and I thank you.
Furthermore, I’d like to thank Lonnie Tvrdy and the Pusch Ridge Christian family for always supporting me. You all taught me more than basketball and those lessons were invaluable.
To all my high school coaching colleagues whom we’ve shared great times on the court either competing or supporting one another, I appreciate you and wish you all nothing but the best.
Coach Ryan Reynolds of the University of Arizona, thank you for always being the guy I could bounce ideas off of. You guided me though a whole lot in the last two years to help me get to this position.
AllSportsTucson and its staff, you all do such a great job helping the youth sports community. Thanks for always supporting me and my boys.
Lastly, to my players and their families either within the Tucson Power Organization or through the high school schools I’ve coached at; words can’t describe how grateful I am for you all. You could have trusted anyone to coach you guys but you all trusted me and I’m forever indebted. My son is the only child in town who is lucky enough to have hundreds of “uncles”. I will never forget the games, the trips, the car rides, none of it. I can’t begin to thank you all enough.
To ALL the parents and families, THANK YOU! The Perlibergs, the Lightfoots, the Foss’, the Garys, the Katsels, the Dreschers, the Allens, the Aguilars, Miss. Barb, ALL OF YOU, I can’t thank you all enough! We love you all!
There are so many people I owe gratitude towards, you all help shape and mold me.
It’s with great pleasure to announce that I will be taking an assistant coaching position at Colorado Christian University in Denver, Colo. God has blessed us tremendously with this opportunity and my family and I look forward to the next chapter in our journey.
I will hold my time in Tucson near and dear to my heart and I won’t soon forget it.
With much love and respect,
David Thomas
