D-BAT Tucson is offering a two-day beginner baseball pitching clinic this week featuring instruction by Pima Community College pitching coach Dustin Kupper and former CDO, Pima and Arizona standout pitcher Bob O’Donnell.
Kupper and O’Donnell are instructors at D-BAT Tucson, which opened in late May near Oracle and Wetmore. All Sports Tucson featured Tucson’s newest batting facility in an article last month.
Among the 11 instructors at the facility are six former Arizona players, including O’Donnell.
The others are hitting instructors J.J. Northam, Ernie Durazo, and Dave Landrith and pitching instructor Jason Hisey. Another Arizona standout who played in the major leagues — Ed Vosberg — is set to join the staff soon as a pitching instructor, he said at the facility last week.
Kupper and O’Donnell will conduct the two-day camp on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The camp is for players up to age 13. The cost is only $30 for non-members and $21 for D-BAT platinum members.
The clinic will include instruction on proper throwing mechanics, healthy arm care (with stretching and warm-ups) and basic principles of pitching (right use of legs, balance, direction, power and extension).
D-BAT Tucson encourages parents to call 520-775-3228 to sign up. Registration is also available at the D-BAT Tucson Web site.
