Former Tucson High standout Ivan Estrella signed with the Bravos de León, a Triple-A affiliate of the Mexican Baseball League or la Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. According to his family, Estrella was noticed by the club while playing infield for Texas Rio Grande Valley.
“They needed a short stop for their organization and they contacted Ivan to see if he was interested,” his mother Sylvia said. “They have a south and north Triple A and at the end of their season they make a Triple-A Elite team. Those are the teams that come here to play.”
The Mexican Baseball Fiesta runs from Oct. 4-7 in Tucson.
Ivan Estrella’s father is Flowing Wells head coach and, Southern Arizona Coach of the Year, Erick Estrella.
León is located in the state Guanajuato in central Mexico, just north of Mexico City.
