Tucson Rattlers remain unbeaten in Nike Chicago tournament

The Tucson Rattlers kept their unbeaten streak going in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago today with two more victories, improving their record to 4-0 in the “Athens” 17U Pool B division.

The Rattlers are the only unbeaten team in their pool. If they defeat Illinois Evolution White (3-1) tomorrow morning at 8:30, Tucson time, they will advance to the Athens division title in which they will play either the Nike Lady Gym Rats Teal from Indiana or Level Up Express from Michigan. Both of those teams are 4-0 in Pool A and they face each other tomorrow morning as well.

Nikya Orange

In today’s games, Nikya Orange, a 5-foot-9 senior forward at Tanque Verde High School, continued to dominate. She had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the Rattlers’ 56-37 win over Swift Elite of Michigan in the first game and seven points and 10 rebounds in a 62-41 win over Wisconsin HLC in the second game.

Orange is averaging 13.8 points and 10.5 rebounds in the four games played in the tournament. She is also shooting 57.9 percent from the field.

Other first game standouts for the Ratters: Pueblo senior guard Summer Fox had 11 points, six assists and six steals and Ironwood Ridge junior forward Bella Hamel had 12 points and five rebounds.

In the second game, Fox had nine points, three assists and five steals, Marana junior guard Antoinette “Andy” Audiss had 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, Hamel had 11 points and rebounds and Marana junior center Bella Muscoreil had eight points.

Fox has tallied 17 steals in the four games, a phenomenal average of 4.3 a game.
