The brackets are in for the Arizona high school state playoffs, Class 2A to Class 6A. A total of 13 Southern Arizona teams are included. Some quick notes about Tucson-area teams:

— The Tucson Badgers (6-4) did not make the 6A bracket because they finished with a No. 20 ranking. They lost four of their last five games.

— Salpointe (10-0) with Division I prospects Bijan Robinson at running back and Lathan Ransom at safety earned the No. 1 seed in the 4A state tournament, placing ahead of No. 2 Scottsdale Saguaro (which finished 9-1 with the lone loss to Las Vegas power Liberty High School).

— Sahuaro will host its first playoff game since 1999, since before any of the Cougars were born and when coach Scott McKee was a walk-on freshman at Arizona playing for Dick Tomey fresh off playing for Jeff Scurran at Sabino.

— Biggest controversy is 5A Sonoran champion Marana Mountain View, which won all five of its region games, is not in the playoffs. The Mountain Lions at 5-5 overall were not one of the top 16 teams in the rankings. Mountain View defeated host Flowing Wells 42-16 last night, yet the Caballeros (8-2, 4-1) made the playoffs as the No. 11-seeded team in the bracket.

— Also interesting: Cienega is seeded No. 8, hosting No. 9 Marana in a first-round game Friday. It is a rematch of when the Bobcats beat the Tigers 44-28 at home Oct. 12. Cienega had a six-game winning streak snapped by Ironwood Ridge last night with a 20-17 loss. The winner of this game has the unenviable task of likely having to travel to No. 1 Peoria Centennial, which routed Cienega 35-0 earlier this season at home. Cienega coach Pat Nugent can’t be happy about the No. 8 seeding.

— Ironwood Ridge captured the 5A Southern title after winning five of its last six games after starting the season 1-3.
