Two touchdown runs by Van Birchak and a stifling defense led by tackle Noah Banhie led the Tucson Jaguars 13U team to a 12-7 win Wednesday over the Marshall Heights (N.C.) Bison in a semifinal game of the AYF National Championships.
The Jaguars advanced to the championship game Friday at noon at Kissimmee, Fla. They will face the Detroit Eastside Cowboys, who beat the Cocoa (Fla.) Tigers 19-13 in the other semifinal game Wednesday.
Birchak had touchdown runs of 2 and 60 yards in the Jaguars’ win over Marshall Heights. Banhie had two sacks after producing 2.5 sacks in the Jaguars’ opening round win Monday over the New London (Conn.) Whalers.
“A great defensive team effort by all to make it to the championship,” Jaguars assistant coach Derrick Gory said.
