2021 RECORD: 3-7

  • Jake Teyechea is in his sixth season at his alma mater as head coach, fifth on the field because the 2020 season was wiped out due to COVID-19 protocol. The transition back to competitive football last year was a difficult one with Nogales finishing 3-7 including losing the last four games against Cienega, Marana, Ironwood Ridge and Sunnyside without scoring. In fact, all seven losses last season were by shutout.
  • A new season brings renewed optimism beginning with the annual game against rival Rio Rico, this time on the road Sept. 2. Nogales is 13-0 against the Hawks since 1997, when Rio Rico opened its doors for the first time.
  • After playing Rio Rico, the Apaches have a bye week and then play 10 straight weeks starting with four more non-region games against Southern Arizona opponents — hosting Buena (Sept. 16), at Sahuaro (Sept. 23) and then hosting Mountain View (Sept. 30) and Desert View (Oct. 7).
  • The Apaches play three 5A Sonoran games on the road — Marana (Oct. 14), Rincon/University (Oct. 28) and Sunnyside (Nov. 4) — and the other two at home against Flowing Wells (Oct. 21) and Cholla (Nov. 11).
