2021 RECORD: 1-8

  • Sahuarita’s second-year coach Jake Price leads his program into the 4A Gila after being in the 3A South in recent years. Sahuarita appealed to the AIA to move up to 4A for travel and competition considerations. No longer does Sahuarita have to travel to Thatcher and Safford in eastern Arizona and driving is also reduced by not having to go all the way to Oro Valley to Pusch Ridge and to Tucson’s far east side at Sabino.
  • Sahuarita’s non-region schedule includes all schools from Southern Arizona with Buena visiting for the season opener Sept. 2. Cholla then visits Sept. 9 before a bye week and Sahuarita then plays three straight games on the road against Rincon/University (Sept, 23), Empire (Sept. 30) and Pueblo (Oct. 7).
  • The 4A Gila schedule includes home games against Rio Rico (Oct. 14) and Catalina Foothills (Oct. 21) followed by games at Sahuaro (Oct. 28) and Walden Grove (Nov. 4). The regular-season finale, closing out region play, is a home game against Amphi Nov. 11.
  • Price will coach against his former player at Ironwood Ridge, Jake Allen, when the Mustangs play at Pueblo. Price and Allen also coached together at Mountain View at 2019.
  • The Sahuarita-Walden Grove rivalry game will be renewed with the neighborhood rivals in the same region. The schools last played each other in 2015. Sahuarita has won the only three games played between the schools.
