  • Ryan McBrayer is entering his sixth season as head coach of his alma mater with a 37-13 career record. Once again, he features one of the most prolific passers in the state. Cameron Hackworth, a Class of 2024 standout, took over from where A.J. Skaggs left off last fall by passing for 2,174 yards while completing 147 passes in 204 attempts with 26 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Hackworth also rushed for 737 yards on 78 carries with nine touchdowns.
  • Sabino’s first four games are against non-region opponents and the Sabercats play out of region late in the season with a game at Eastmark on Oct. 14. The first four games are against Coolidge (Aug. 19) and ALA – Anthem South (Aug. 26) at home, ALA – West Foothills (Sept. 2) on the road and then its annual rivalry game with Sahuaro at home (Sept. 9).
  • Coolidge finished 6-4 last season. ALA – Anthem South (Florence) and ALA – West Foothills (western Phoenix) are in their first varsity seasons. Sahuaro is coming off a 1-8 season and will feature new coach Al Alexander. Sabino has won five of the last seven meetings of the rivalry with the Cougars. Eastmark was 7-4 last season with a loss to River Valley in the first round of the 3A playoffs.
  • The Sabercats’ 3A South schedule begins Sept. 16 at Palo Verde, which is moving from 4A to 3A after not having enough healthy players to field a varsity team last season. Sabino hosts Safford (Sept. 23) before playing at Pusch Ridge (Sept. 30) and Thatcher (Oct. 21). The regular-season finale is at home Oct. 28 against Benson, which is making the jump from 2A to 3A.
