Sunnyside advances to Little League 50/70 state tournament after winning District 12 title

Sunnyside defeated Cactus 24-2 in five innings on Friday night to capture the District 12 Little League 50/70 championship, enabling the team to advance to the state tournament in Nogales starting July 10.

The victory followed Thursday’s 16-0 win in four innings for Sunnyside over Cactus in the opener of the best-of-three series at Vista del Prado Park.

Jake Ogas, Jaylee Abraham and Eli Urias combined to strike out 14 batters and limit Cactus to two hits in Friday’s victory.

Ogas (pitched first and second innings) had six strikeouts, Abraham (third and fourth) finished with five and Urias struck out the side in the fifth inning.

Braedyn Palacios hit a two-run home run for Cactus.
