First-place Tucson Saguaros sweep Austin Weirdos, extend winning streak to five games

The Tucson Saguaros, the first-place team in the Mountain Division of the Pecos Independent Baseball League, completed a three-game sweep of the Austin Weirdos with a 16-10 victory Saturday at Kino Stadium.

Tucson (28-9) is now two games ahead of the Trinidad (Colo.) Triggers (26-11) in the standings. The Triggers lost 15-8 at the Roswell (N.M.) Invaders on Saturday night.

The Saguaros are off Sunday with the Mountain Division All-Star Game taking place at Alpine, Texas. They resume their schedule Monday at Roswell (24-16) for the start of a two-game series before returning to Kino Stadium on Thursday for a three-game series against the Alpine Cowboys (24-16).

Santos, who was with the New York Yankees at Single-A Tampa last year, belted his ninth home run of the season in Saturday’s win over Austin. He finished 2 for 5 with two runs and five RBIs.

Gavy Perez-Torres, who played at the University of the Southwest, went 3 for 5 with a double, three runs and two RBIs.

Ju’Juan Franklin, a former Louisiana Christian standout, was 3 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Starting pitcher Isaac Kehn, formerly of West Texas A&M, went a solid six innings, allowing only two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Austin rallied for its 10 runs in the seventh inning after he left the game to cut the lead to 12-10. Tucson added four insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh.
