The Old Tucson Gauchos, the top team in the Sun Belt College League throughout the season, punctuated their dominance with a 7-1 win late Friday night over the Speedway Gamblers to earn the championship at the Kino Annex Fields.
The third game of the best-of-three championship series finished near midnight after an approximate three-hour delay because of lightning and rain.
The Gauchos, 18-4-1 during the season, were led Friday by the pitching of Marana right-handed graduates Gabriel Ridenour (Pima College) and Luke Moyle (attending Arizona).
Ridenour allowed six hits in six innings with nine strikeouts and two walks, and Moyle struck out three with no walks while allowing two hits in three innings of relief.
Seven different Gauchos drove in a run.
Liam Padden (CDO/Mercy College) and Raenan Padilla (Nogales/Gateway Community College) each had two hits and an RBI. Padilla had a double and a triple.
Alec Larson (Catalina Foothills/Eastern Arizona College) drove in the Gamblers’ lone run and went 2 for 4.
