Tucson Saguaros drop second consecutive game to Alpine (Texas) Cowboys

Rough little stretch for the Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos Independent Baseball League.

The Saguaros hosted the Alpine (Texas) Cowboys on Thursday through Saturday at Kino Memorial Stadium, but the games Friday and Saturday were canceled because of rain and lightning.

They lost Thursday’s game, snapping a seven-game winning streak.

They teams hit the road for a three-game series starting Sunday at Alpine, and the Saguaros (30-11) fell short again, losing 5-3.

Brock Ephan of Lewis-Clark State College accounted for all three of Tucson’s runs with two home runs. He now has eight home runs with 38 RBIs and is batting .411.

The teams resume their series at Alpine on Monday at 6 p.m., Tucson time.

Tucson’s lead in the Mountain Division is down to two games over the Trinidad (Colo.) Triggers (29-14) and 2 1/2 games over Alpine (30-16).

The Saguaros return to Kino Stadium on Thursday against the Roswell (N.M.) Invaders (27-19) for a four-game series to conclude the regular season.
