Cruz and Elijah Rushing have made plenty of headlines around here in their careers in youth football and then at Salpointe Catholic.
Younger brother David Rushing will soon get more and more notoriety as a freshman standout athlete with the Lancers’ football program.
Their sister Michelle Rushing, who is 12, is already establishing herself as one of the top athletes in this state, especially in her age group.
Michelle, part of the AZ Titans track and field club coached by Freddie Lux, took home the silver medal in the 80-meter hurdles (11-12 age group) at the USATF National Junior Olympics Championships at Eugene, Ore., this weekend.
Michelle finished in a personal-best time of 12.87 seconds, second to Aaliyah Allen (12.35) of North Texas.

Michelle also competed in the 100-meter dash and reached the semifinals, where she finished in a time of 13.50 seconds.
Other members of the AZ Titans also fared well in Eugene —
Milah Henderson: Girls 100m and 200m (8U). Placed fourth in the 100m finals (15.03 seconds) and fourth in the 200m finals (31.02).
Zaya Sauls: Girls 100m and 200m (9-10). Reached the semifinals in 100m and prelims in the 200m.
Nicole Conner-Lowe: Girls javelin throw and shot put (9-10). Placed 25th in the javelin throw and fourth in the shot put with personal-best mark of 7.51m (24 feet, 7.75 inches).
Lailah Knight: Girls javelin throw (9-10). Placed 39th in the javelin throw.
Girls 4/100m Relay: Lailah Knight, Zaya Sauls, Jayla Sawyer and Alina Deon, reached 9-10 prelims.
Anniah Henderson: Girls 100m, 200m and 400m (11-12). Reached the prelims in the 100m, semifinals in the 200m and placed sixth in the 400m finals (1:00.11).
Anthony Henderson: Boys 200m and 400m (8U). Reached the semifinals in the 200m and 400m.
Karsten Lewis: Girls 400m hurdles (15-16). Reached the prelims in the 400m hurdles.
Imani Watson: Girls 400m hurdles (15-16). Reached the prelims in the 400m hurdles.
