Saguaros in Pecos League championship; Empire grad Cervantes Mountain Division pitcher of year

The Tucson Saguaros defeated the Trinidad (Colo.) Triggers 12-7 on Monday night at Kino Memorial Stadium to win the best-of-three Pecos League Mountain Division championship series.

The Saguaros (35-13) advance to the Pecos League championship series against the Pacific Division champions San Rafael (Calif.) Pacifics.

The best-of-three series that starts Wednesday will be played at San Rafael (39-8).

It was announced Monday that Empire graduate and current Sahuaro assistant Jaymon Cervantes was named the Pecos League Mountain Division Pitcher of the Year.

The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound right-hander went 6-1 with a 3.61 ERA in 47 1/3 innings with 59 strikeouts and 22 walks during the regular season, leading the Saguaros to the No. 1 seed in the Mountain Division playoffs.
