BENSON COACH DUSTIN CLUFF

BENSON QB DALTON CROCKETT

Coaching staff:

  • Head coach/offensive coordinator/special teams/wide receivers: Dustin Cluff
  • Quarterbacks/defensive backs/Head JV coach: Talon Palmer
  • Offensive line/defensive line: Alex Montijo
  • Defensive coordinator/running backs: Ryan Taylor

Notes: Dustin Cluff is in his second year as a head coach at Benson after serving as an assistant for 14 years at Flagstaff Sinagua, Show Low and Eager Round Valley. He was hired to replace long-time coach Chris Determan, who was not retained after coaching the Bobcat program for two decades. Determan’s offense was run-oriented while Cluff’s background includes offenses with more of a passing scheme. … QB Dalton Crockett has grown to 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, and with that size, he sets himself apart from others. The combination of Crockett and Cluff’s son Brax will be something to watch this season. Crockett connected with Brax Cluff seven times for 93 yards in Friday’s 43-13 loss to Bisbee. The completions included connections of 23, 16 and 20 yards. … After one season at the 3A South, the school lobbied to the AIA to return to the 2A level after last year’s 5-6 record. The Bobcats were 1-5 against 3A South teams with the lone win against Palo Verde. They were 4-1 against mostly 2A teams. … Interesting schedule with Benson playing its first four games at home and then five consecutive road games before ending at home against Tanque Verde.

Keep an eye out for: RB Flint Davis, a junior speedster at 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds with a good burst and agility avoiding tacklers. He rushed for 117 yards on 18 carries with a 15-yard touchdown run up the middle against Bisbee on Friday.

23. BENSON (3-4, 1-2)
