The Pima Community College men’s basketball team received widespread recognition for its 26-4 season heading into Thursday’s semifinal round of the ACCAC Region I, Division II tournament at the Aztec West Gym.
The No. 2 Aztecs will play No. 3 Glendale at 7:30 p.m.
Freshman Cohenj Gonzales was named ACCAC Division II Freshman of the Year. He also earned First Team All-ACCAC and Second Team All-Region I, Division II.
He played and started in 29 games averaging 15.8 points per game and led the team with a 48.6 percent three-point shooting percentage. He also averaged 3.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Gonzales averaged 24.3 minutes per game and shot 81.6 percent from the free throw line. He scored in double figures in 26 of the 29 games played.
Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe) was named First Team All-ACCAC and First Team All-Region I, Division II.
Baker played and started in all 30 games for the Aztecs as he led the team with an 18.4 scoring average and 25.9 minutes per game. He also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Baker shot 50.3 percent from the field, 43.6 percent from beyond the arc and 72.3 percent from the free throw line. He scored in double figures in 29 of the 30 games he played in and reached the 1,000-point career milestone on March 2.
Sophomore Jaylen Alexander was also selected First Team All-ACCAC and First Team All-Region.
He played in all 30 games; making 29 starts in the frontcourt. Alexander averaged 15.9 points per game to go along with 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals. He produced double figures in scoring for 23 games during the regular season and had four double-doubles in points and rebounds. Alexander shot 63 percent from the field and almost 65 percent from the foul line.
Freshman Gabe Oldham was named Second Team All-ACCAC and Second team All-Region.
He played in 23 games and made 19 starts. He averaged 14.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He led the Aztecs with a 66.5 field goal percentage and had eight double-doubles in points and rebounds. Oldham also produced 10 games with double-digit figures in rebounds.
