First Team All-Southern Arizona standout Krista Martinez joined the University of Arizona softball team the program announced on Thursday. Martinez helped lead Salpointe to three straight 4A championships from 2021 to 2023 (there was no season in 2020) and she finished her career with 22 home runs and 87 RBI while batting .372 in 231 at bats.
Martinez joins other local standouts Aissa Silva (Mountain View DNP), Zaedi Tagalog (CDO), Allie Skaggs (Ironwood Ridge), Carlie Scupin (Tucson), Logan Cole (Salpointe), Blaise Biringer (Cienega), Devyn Netz (Ironwood Ridge) and Logan Cole (Salpointe) on the current Wildcat roster.
Former Catalina Foothills and Arizona standout QB Rhett Rodriguez was named Offensive Analyst for Jacksonville State on Wednesday. Rodriguez threw for 8,694 career yards (2013-16) for the Falcons, which served as a Southern Arizona record for eight years. He helped lead the Falcons to an 11-3 record and a state runner-up finish in his senior year.
Former Marana and Colorado standout Jamee Swan was named Junior Varsity Head Coach for NAIA D-I program Waldorf University. Swan scored over 1,000 career points at Marana and she was a two-time All-Pac 12 honorable mention honoree with Colorado. She was also named to the Colorado All-Decade team.
