No. 3 CDO advances to 4A semifinals with 14-2 win over No. 2 Phoenix Arcadia

Canyon del Oro’s Molly Herman went 3 for 5 with three runs and three RBIs to lead the No. 3 Dorados to a 14-2 win Saturday over No. 2 Phoenix Arcadia in a 4A quarterfinal game at Phoenix’s Papago Softball Complex.

CDO (32-2) will play Thursday in the semifinal round at the Papago Softball Complex at 5:30 p.m. against either No. 5 Flagstaff Coconino or No. 1 Mesa Eastmark.

Coconino and Eastmark will play in an elimination-bracket game Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Papago Softball Complex.

The Dorados, 3-0 in the tournament, defeated Arcadia on Saturday by tallying 12 hits, 11 of them singles.

Leadoff batter Kayla Hendrix, who went 1 for 4 with two runs, hit a double.

No. 9 batter Kelsey Rolls went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Destanee Nez and Taya Kelly each had two hits and an RBI.

CDO put pressure on Arcadia on the basebaths with Kelly, Sammy Hudgens, Briseis Ramirez, Jacey Mazura and Brooke Sandoval recording a stolen base.

Arcadia finished with five errors.

CDO ace Amelia Steuber allowed one hit in three innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

Nez pitched the last four innings, allowing four hits, one earned run while recording six strikeouts and no walks.
