Former Catalina Foothills and University of Arizona standout golfer Gavin Cohen shot a 23-under-par 261 (64-66-64-67) to win the Children’s Hospital of Illinois Championship held at the Metamora Fields Golf Club from June 26-29. Cohen transferred to LMU after his freshman season at Arizona and he was the 2017 state champion playing for Catalina Foothills. Cohen brought home $30,000 for his first professional victory.

“It’s my first professional win so that’s obviously something that’s been on my radar, something that I’ve strive to do and I can check that mark off and now just keep moving and ride the hot hand and hope fully get through the John Deere this coming week,” Cohen told Paiton Haga of the APT.

Cohen beat Noah Woolsey (64-67-66-65) by one stroke after Woolsey pulled ahead with a birdie on hole 15 but Cohen tied it up with a birdie on 17. Woolsey bogeyed the 18th hole and Cohen shot par for the victory.
