Former Nogales shortstop Demetrio Crisantes, a 19-year-old prospect who signed with Arizona before going to the Arizona Diamondbacks as a seventh-round pick in 2022, excelled at a high rate in the month of August at Single-A Visalia (Calif.).
Crisantes batted .326 (30 of 92) in August with 25 runs, 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs, seven stolen bases and 19 RBIs. His on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) was an astounding .952 in the month as well.
For that performance, Crisantes is the Jet Sports Training Male Athlete of the Month for August.
In 58 games overall at Visalia after his promotion from the Arizona Rookie League in June, Crisantes is batting .345 with 16 doubles, a triple and six home runs with 38 RBIs. He also has 17 stolen bases.
Having gone through a pair of Tommy John surgeries and subsequent rehabs, Crisantes is enjoying his first fully healthy, rehab-free season as a professional since the Diamondbacks drafted him in the seventh round in 2022.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated Arizona, Crisantes said he is taking great pride representing Nogales and Southern Arizona in the pro ranks.
“It’s awesome, honestly. I want to make the big leagues with the D-backs, I want to stay with the organization, it’s a great organization. Coaches are amazing, staff is amazing. Just being from Arizona too, I used to go to Chase Field all the time to watch the big league games,” he said.
“Every time up there, watching a game, it just reminds me of like, ‘Wow, I was one of those kids asking for autographs there a couple years ago,’ and now I have the chance to… hopefully be in the big leagues with the D-backs and play there, which is a dream come true.”
