Brysen Barrios, who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards two years ago as a senior at Pusch Ridge, has passed away, according to an Instagram post by his brother Brandon.
A reason for his death was not disclosed.
Barrios was a Class of 2023 graduate who had a 4.3 GPA, top of his class at Pusch Ridge. He mentioned in a recruiting biot that he was interested in studying chemical engineering, computer science, business administration or physical therapy.
“Oh Brysen, how can I describe your beautiful life in only a few sentences,” Brandon, a former standout running back at Ironwood Ridge, mentioned in the post. “Holding you in my arms when you were born was the most meaningful moment in my life. I was so excited to have a baby brother and to grow up with you, playing football together and being the best man at your wedding.
“You were taken too soon brother but I know GOD needs you up there for a higher purpose. Ill never forget the moments we shared together whether it was, getting you out of trouble with dad, enduring long summer workouts and teaching you how to country dance. I am so proud of you and I never wanted to admit that you were better than me in every way but now I guess I have to choice. You were the best brother, son, running back and country dancer I knew.”
Brysen, 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds, played in all 13 games for Pusch Ridge two years ago and rushed for 919 yards on 132 carries with 18 touchdowns. He also had 13 receptions for 169 yards with three touchdowns.
He earned an Ed Doherty Award nomination during that season for his 197-yard rushing, three-touchdown performance in a 52-20 win over Valley Christian. The Ed Doherty Award is presented to the top high school player in the state.
He was also a track and field athlete with the Lions.
