Sweep of Roebucks of Marana High School for the female and male athlete of the month for September — Marana senior receiver Dezmen Roebuck joins his sister Malaysia with the honor.
Dezmen is a record-breaking receiver who has helped lead Marana to a 5-0 record with four of the wins occurring in September, including a 36-28 victory over Gilbert Higley.
For his performance, Dezmen Roebuck is the Jet Sports Training Male Athlete of the Month for September.
Dezmen, who already holds the season receptions record of 121 set last year, broke Brandon Phelps’ career receptions record earlier this season. Dezmen is at 298 going into Friday’s game at Sunnyside and Phelps, now a freshman at Arizona, had 282 with ALA-Gilbert North.
Dezmen’s 3,649 career receiving yards is a Southern Arizona record, breaking the mark of 3,537 previously held by Salpointe’s Cameron Denson from 2010 to 2013.
Phelps owns the state record with 4,971 yards from 2020 to 2023.
Dezmen, who has committed to Washington, is also one of Southern Arizona’s best as a defensive backs with three interceptions for the Tigers.
