Pima’s Danhof & Pepe, both Ironwood Ridge grads, set Aztec program records

The Pima Community College sophomore standouts Reatta Danhof and Morgan Pepe, both Ironwood Ridge graduates, set program records Saturday at the PVCC Indoor Invitational held at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix.

Danhof broke her second Pima school record in as many weeks as she finished the one-mile race with a time of 5 minutes, 17.40 seconds. She broke Heidi Lopez’s previous record of 5:19.79 set in 2014. Danhof broke her own school record in the 800 meters (2:21.32) last week at the Al Shirley Memorial Indoor Invitational.

Pepe topped the Pima Indoor school record in the pole vault as she cleared a vault of 3.80 meters (12-feet, 5.50-inches) on her third attempt. She broke Brooke Peterson’s record of 3.75 meters (12-3.50) set in 2023.

Pepe moved into the second spot the week before after clearing 3.65 meters (11-11.75) at the Al Shirley Memorial Invitational. She already owns the outdoor school record with a mark of 3.82 meters (12-6.25).

The distance medley relay team of freshman Ella Allred (Benson), Danhof, J’Layah Spellman-Collins and sophomore Linda Rivero (Desert View) took first place and earned an Indoor national qualifying time of 12:41.38. They are third on the Pima all-time list.

Sophomore April Necaise set an Indoor national qualifying mark in the high jump after she cleared 1.62 meters (5-3.75).

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Freshman Ketch Sulpizio took first place in the pole vcault and earned an indoor and outdoor national qualifying mark of 4.63 meters (15-2.25) on his second attempt.

The women’s and men’s track & field teams will next compete at the Central Arizona Indoor Invitational on Saturday at Central Arizona College in Coolidge.
