Sunnyside graduate Audrey Jimenez, representing Team USA, claimed a gold medal Friday in the 50 kg (110-pound) weight class at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships at Monterrey, Mexico.
Jimenez pinned Madison Parks of Canada in 3:58 in the finals after the match was tied at 2-2 in the second period. Jimenez locked Parks in a cradle and then turned her before finishing the fall.
Roman Bravo–Young, also a four-time state champion at Sunnyside, is competing in the Pan American Championships this weekend at Monterrey representing Mexico at 57 kg (125 pounds).
Jimenez, who graduated from Sunnyside last year, is a four-time age-group world medalist.
In the semifinal round, she beat Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman with a technical fall (18-8) following a comeback. She tied the match at 8 with a takedown and then locked on an ankle lace before turning Guzman five straight times.
She also won by technical fall (10-0) in the quarterfinals against Panama’s Yorlenis Moran.
Jimenez has experienced a tremendous amount of success this year after returning from knee surgery for a torn MCL and ACL.
She earned the U.S. Open freestyle championship at 50 kilograms two weeks ago at Las Vegas.
That title punched her ticket to the Final X against an opponent to be determined June 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., where she will compete in a best-of-three series with the winner qualifying for the U.S. Senior World Team.
The Senior World Championships will be held at Zagreb, Croatia from Sept. 13-21.
Jimenez also was victorious in the U20 U.S. World Team Trials on April 6 at Spokane, Wash.
She will be part of the U.S. team that will compete in the U20 World Championships at Sofia, Bulgaria, from Aug. 18-24.
