Pueblo wins third straight game after starting 0-3

Pueblo High School had a night to remember, rolling past host Rincon/University 55-6 on Friday.

Seven different Warriors found the end zone in the win. Quarterback Roman Otero threw for 93 yards and two touchdowns while adding 40 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Jeremiah Sandoval also ran for two touchdowns and finished with 47 yards.

The defense complimented Pueblo’s dominant night as well, recording five sacks, two interceptions, and a turnover on downs. Armahn Corral Flores tipped the pass and returned it for a touchdown, while Chazz Smith added the second.

“I want to thank my teammates, especially all the work we’ve been putting in,” Corral said. “People counted us out but we’re going to come back.”

“Defense doesn’t get enough credit,” head coach Sly Lewis said. “They come to work just like the offense. They got a lot of stops tonight and gave us a chance to score some points.”

Pueblo jumped out to an early two-touchdown lead behind Otero’s rushing score and a touchdown pass to Aron Gorman.

Rincon/University responded with its lone score of the night on a drive led by Jacob Jackson, who found Preston Fierko for an 11-yard touchdown pass.

From there, Pueblo took control, scoring 41 unanswered points on touchdowns from SandovalDarrius TaylorFernando GarciaFlores, and Andray Rodriguez.

“These guys they work hard. We want to make sure we’re on point,” Lewis said. “A lot of people wrote us off at 0-3.”

“We just think about everybody that had negative thoughts about us, that makes us push and drive even more,” Otero said.

Pueblo improved to 3-3 on the season and extended its winning streak to three games. The Warriors will face 4A rival Cholla on Friday.

“I’m pretty excited,” Otero said about the upcoming matchup. “I’m just here to keep that streak alive.”

Pueblo has a three-game winning streak against Cholla.
