Sabino senior pitcher Riley Nielson went 8-0 with a 0.98 ERA in the month of March — a significant reason why the defending state champion Sabercats are 19-3 overall and 5-0 in the 3A South.
Because of her overpowering performances, Nielson (10-2 with a 2.06 ERA overall this season) is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month for March.
Nielson, who has signed with Southern Utah, has 91 strikeouts and 18 walks in 68 innings.
She is also batting .442 with five doubles and 23 RBIs.
Sabino is the No. 3-rated team in the 3A by the Arizona Interscholastic Association.
