Canyon View is in the Little League Baseball West Regional because of a team effort advancing through the District 5 and Arizona state tournaments, and one of its standouts was outfielder/pitcher Ethan Burnside.

Burnside pitched Canyon View into the state tournament when he went 5 2/3 innings of relief and allowed only three hits while striking out four in a 12-4 win over Marana in the district championship.

He was one of Canyon View’s top batters in the state tournament at Flagstaff, hitting three home runs, including two in one game in a 13-6 win over Cactus Foothills on July 20.

He batted 7 of 13 (.538) with 10 RBIs in the state tournament.

He also got Canyon View off on the right foot, striking out eight and allowing four hits in 4 2/3 innings in the opening-round 6-1 win over Litchfield Park on July 17.

In his other outing on the mound July 25, he struck out seven with no walks while allowing five hits in five innings in a 2-1 loss to Sunnyside.

In the following deciding game against Sunnyside, he went 2 for 3 at the plate in a 9-3 victory.

The whole team deserves recognition and should join in Burnside’s honor of Jet Sports Tucson Male Athlete of the Month for July.
