Tropical storm forces Little League Softball World Series to be moved to East Carolina campus Friday

The Willcox Little League All-Stars, not able to play since Monday in the Little League Softball World Series because of inclement weather from Tropical Storm Debby, hope to play on Friday amid more expected rainfall at Greenville, N.C.

If the elimination-bracket game against Asia-Pacific (Bacolod City, Philippines) is played, it will be at East Carolina’s softball stadium in Greenville and not Stallings Stadium, the regular site for the LLSWS.

The LLSWS announced on Thursday the switch in venues for Friday’s games, citing the “severe impact that Tropical Storm Debby has had on the field at Stallings Stadium.”

Willcox is slated to play Asia-Pacific at 8 a.m. on Friday on ESPN2. If it wins, it will play Mid-Atlantic at noon on ESPN2.

The LLSWS posted the remainder of the schedule after Friday as having dates and times “to be determined.” Earlier on Thursday, the championship game was listed for noon Sunday on ABC, but that is no longer definite.

Friday’s forecast at Greenville calls for 88 percent chance rain and a flash-flood warning is in effect through Friday night.

“All is going okay,” Willcox manager Patrick Macumber mentioned in a text message. “Ready to play, but they (his team) are still making the best of this.”
