Sunnyside High School graduate Roman Bravo-Young, now training and competing out of the Oklahoma State Regional Training Center (RTC), earned the 57-kilogram (125-pound) championship at the Korean Open International Tournament at Sangju, South Korea on Saturday.

Bravo-Young, representing Mexico, as he did during the Paris Olympics, topped two wrestlers from Japan in the semifinal round and championship.

He earned the semifinal victory by fall (5:04) over Ban Sawatani and the championship over Fuga Sasaki by an 8-2 decision.

The victories improve his national and international freestyle record to 24-5.

In 2024, he has won titles in his weight class at the Henri Deglane Grand Prix at Paris, France; Pan America Olympic Qualification Tournament at Acapulco, Mexico; the Poland Open at Warsaw, Poland; and the Korea Open.

Bravo-Young, 25, was a four-time state champion at Sunnyside who was 182-0 during his career with the Blue Devils.

He went on to win two national titles at Penn State, where he compiled a 100-10 record (56-1 over his last three seasons).
