Nick Johnson and Aaron Gordon might say their former coach Sean Miller is a man of many words, especially in practice, but the Arizona Wildcats coach proved today that he is a man of his word.
Within a day after Steve and Margot Kerr picked Miller as a candidate in their ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Miller delivered. Or more appropriately, what appeared to be Miller’s sons delivered — two buckets of ice water over his head.
It would have been more hilarious if Miller shrieked, “He touched the ball!” as the water fell on him, but he let out a loud “Wooooo!”, or so it sounded.
Before the buckets were turned on him, Miller challenged Johnson, Gordon and Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim to do the same.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral over the last month to bring awareness to ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Generally those challenged have 24 hours to respond or donate money to that charity (or one of their choice). If they follow through, they challenge three more people, and so on.
Yours truly was challenged on Facebook by Washington Post sports copy editor Thomas Heleba, whom I befriended at The Arizona Daily Star more than 20 years ago. I will follow through on that challenge on Sunday.
In case you’re wondering about the connection between Miller and Keim, both hail from Pennsylvania and Keim served as a graduate assistant and recruiting coordinator for the football team at North Carolina State in the late 1990s when Miller was an assistant with the basketball team there.
