Arizona earns fifth Big 12 series win of season with another run-rule win over Houston

 No. 20 Arizona secured its fifth Big 12 series victory with Saturday’s 8-0 win in five innings over Houston at Hillenbrand Stadium.

The Wildcats are 33-13 overall, 14-6 in the Big 12 (in second place behind Texas Tech) heading into Sunday’s regular-season finale against Houston (20-30, 3-20). First pitch for Senior Day is at noon.

The Wildcats scored eight runs on seven hits and drew five walks against the Cougars. 

Regan Shockey went 3 for 3 for the second consecutive game to lead the offense.

Sydney Stewart drew three walks. Grace Jenkins drove in three runs.

Arizona scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead over Houston. Jenkins singled through the right side to bring in both runs.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 5-0 by plating three runs in the third inning. Tayler Biehl drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI bunt single. Jenkins drove in her third run of the game with an RBI groundout and Jenna Sniffen followed with an RBI groundout to score the fifth run of the game.

In the fourth, Arizona scored three to make it an 8-0 game. Sereniti Trice had an RBI groundout to bring in the first run and Shockey took advantage of an error to score the second run of the inning. Biehl drove in her second run of the game with an RBI groundout to extend the lead.

Rylie Holder earned the win to improve to 10-4 after tossing a complete-game shutout and striking out a career-high-tying five batters. Holder retired eight straight batters in the middle innings to keep Houston scoreless.
