No. 1 CDO reaches 5A semifinals after earning fourth straight shutout victory

Canyon del Oro won its second consecutive game by a 1-0 score, advancing to the 5A state semifinals following the victory over Canyon View at Tempe’s Diablo Stadium on Thursday night.

The victory is the fourth straight shutout for CDO (27-5). The scoreless inning steak for the Dorados’ pitching and defense is 26 innings, extending to an 8-1 win over Catalina Foothills on April 23.

Seniors Regen Mazura and Peyton Carson combined on the shutout against Canyon View (27-7).

Mazura (10-0) was the winning pitcher, going 6 2/3 innings. She scattered eight hits and had 10 strikeouts with no walks.

Carson earned his third save of the season, getting the last batter to ground out. Mazura had reached 107 pitches when he was relieved.

Mazura has not allowed a run in 13 2/3 innings of the Dorados’ current scoreless streak.

CDO’s lone run against Canyon View came in the first inning after senior Francisco Rivero singled with two outs and Carson followed with a double.

Senior Casey Hagerman (4-3) lost in the pitcher’s duel with Mazura, allowing five hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked one.

NEXT: CDO will face either Canyon View or No. 4 Chandler AZ College Prep (21-8) in the semifinal round on Wednesday at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa at 6:30 p.m. The Dorados need only one win to advance to the championship, while Canyon View or AZ College Prep must beat them twice.
