
The Pima Community College softball team is the No. 8 seed in the NJCAA Division II World Series that starts May 20 at Spartanburg, S.C.
The Aztecs (47-8) will open against No. 9 Des Moines (Iowa) Area (54-10) on May 20 at 8 a.m., Tucson time.
Pima beat Des Moines 9-1 in six innings in the consolation bracket last year in the NJCAA Division II World Series.
Des Moines’ Bob Ligouri is a veteran coach who built DMACC into a Division II powerhouse. Under his guidance, the Bears have reached the NJCAA Division II World Series 11 times in a 12-year stretch.

The Bears have a .387 team batting average and a .621 slugging percentage, generating 80 home runs over the 64-game season. Their pitching staff ha recorded a 1.73 combined ERA.
Pima coach Rebekah Quiroz, a Flowing Wells and Arizona alum, earned selection of ACCAC Division II Coach of the Year — the first Pima softball coach to receive the award since Stacy Iveson in 2005.
The Aztecs claimed their third straight Region I/West District Championship after beating South Mountain 1-0 on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Field.
They finished 25-2 at Aztec Field and are 22-6 on the road.

The Aztecs have compiled a .390 team batting average. They have a .462 on-base percentage.
Pima has also logged 144 extra-base hits, which included 97 doubles, 20 triples, and 27 home runs. This propelled the Aztecs to a .537 slugging percentage.
Pima pitchers kept base runners to a minimum, closing conference play with a 1.51 WHIP.
The defense and pitching staff blanked opponents nine times over the course of the season.
Opposing hitters have managed a .265 batting average against Pima.
