Three women & six men earn All-American status for Pima in NJCAA national championships

The Pima Community College women’s and men’s track & field teams closed the 2026 season on Saturday in the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships in Hobbs, N.M.

The Aztec women finished in 21st place with a total of 10 points. New Mexico Junior College took first place in the final standings with 107.50 points.

The Aztecs men finished in 14th place with a total of 23.50 points. New Mexico Junior College took first place with 97 points.

Sophomore Kymia Bridgett capped her season becoming a two-time NJCAA All-American in the Triple Jump. She took sixth place with a mark of 12.44 meters (40-feet, 9.75-inches) earning three team points.

Bridgett, who is considering transferring to UNLV or Northern Colorado, completed her only season with the Aztecs, becoming an NJCAA Indoor National Champion, ACCAC Conference Champion and Region I Champion in the Triple Jump. She was also a three-time ACCAC Field Athlete of the Week.

Lilyanne Dawson (Empire) – 12th place in Discus 40.35 meters (132-5)

Pima Women’s Track & Field competitors who earned NJCAA Outdoor All-American:

Hannah Droeg – Heptathlon (Third place), 6 points

Kymia Bridgett – Triple Jump (Sixth place), 3 points

Tyra Starkey – Pole Vault (Eighth place), 1 point

The Aztecs captured their second straight Region I Team Championship and also secured the ACCAC Conference Team Championship.

In the men’s competitionj, sophomore Jake Applegate capped his Pima career with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.60 seconds. He earned four team points and NJCAA All-American recognition.

Applegate broke the 110-meter hurdles Pima Outdoor school record in Friday’s prelims race and owns the school records for all three hurdle events: 60-meter hurdles (8.23), 110-meter hurdles (14.32) and 400-meter hurdles 51.44.

Sophomore Mason Heisser gained his All-American status after he placed sixth in the Triple Jump with a personal-best of 14.93 meters (48-feet, 11.75-inches).

He claimed the ACCAC Conference Championship in the Triple Jump on April 3.

Wyatt Nicholas – 10th place in Triple Jump 14.66 meters (48-feet, 1.25-inches)

Jackson Koontz – 17th place in 5,000 meters 15:45.33

Pima Men’s Track & Field competitors who earned NJCAA Outdoor All-American:

Cedric Cade – Decathlon (Third place), 6 points

Noah Brosier – Long Jump (Fourth place), 5 points

Jake Applegate – 400-meter Hurdles (Fifth place), 4 points

Ketch Sulpizio – Pole Vault (T-Fifth place), 3.5 points

Mason Heisser – Triple Jump (Sixth place), 3 points

Andrew Schmier – Decathlon (Seventh place), 2 points

The Aztecs captured their fourth straight Region I Team Championship (fifth in six years) and also secured the ACCAC Conference Team Championship.
