Arizona has struck it rich in the transfer portal the last few years under Caitlin Lowe, and she appears to be working the same kind of success this year.
She attracted her third four-star transfer (ratings by Softball America) in two days landing another standout from North Texas at a position of need — catcher.
Elizabeth Moffitt, who originally signed with Texas Tech out of high school, will join slugger Madison Conley transferring from North Texas. Conley announced her transfer Saturday, as did former South Alabama ace Ryley Harrison. All three of them have one year of eligibilty remaining.
Lowe is hoping Moffitt, Conley and Harrison are the next Sydney Stewart (Washington), Grace Jenkins (UConn) and Jalen Adams (Iowa) who became prominent contributors for Arizona after starting their careers elsewhere.
Lowe has also attracted infielders Kiki Escobar from Oregon State and Sereniti Trice from Iowa State in recent years.
Moffitt fills the need at catcher for Lowe with Stewart exhausting her eligibility and Emma Kavanagh in the transfer portal.
Moffitt did not play her freshman season at Texas Tech and utilized a redshirt that season. She will be a fifth-year senior at Arizona after playing the last three seasons at North Texas.
Moffitt was named to the All-American Conference First Team this season along with Conley. She is the first catcher from North Texas to earn an all-conference first team selection.
Moffitt set career highs in in batting average (.390), on-base percentage (.510), slugging percentage (.723), hits (55), home runs (12), and total bases (102). She also had a phenomenal 1.196 OPS. She struck out only 14 times and had 22 walks.
She was effective behind the plate defensive, successful on catching 12 of 24 opponents who attempted to steal a base. She saved 9.54 defensive runs, 4.24 framing runs, 2.60 stolen base runs, and 2.73 blocking runs.
She entered the transfer portal last year but decided to return to North Texas.
Against Power 4 opponents Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Rutgers and Oklahoma this season, she was 6 for 20 (.300) with three RBIs. She was 3 for 8 with two RBIs against Texas Tech and NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry.
