Over the next week or so, we will be introducing our readers to all the local sports anchors and reporters responsible for making Friday Nights come alive in your living room.
Today: Damien Alameda
Damien Alameda always signs off his broadcasts, “Friends that is sports” for good reason. The KOLD-TV (CBS) Sports Director has been part of Tucson since 2006 and his friendly and humorous approach has made him a welcome addition to the Old Pueblo.
Damien comes from Oak Park, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. He graduated from Steve Nash’s alma mater Santa Clara University with a BA in Communication and an emphasis in Television Production.
In his own words:
“One of my first jobs in the broadcasting business was working behind the scenes for a local Bay Area television show called High School Sports Focus. I got a chance to cover the likes of Maurice Jones-Drew and Marshawn Lynch long before they became NFL stars. Learned a lot in those years so, in a way, my career owes a great deal to the high school sport scene.
For nearly a decade now, I’ve had so much fun covering our local Southern Arizona athletes. It’s been a privilege to watch them blossom into adulthood, overcome adversity, and move on to bigger and better things – whether it be sports-related or not.
In my perfect world, high school remains a time when playing the game for love of the game still matters most. I find that sometimes the most important stories, the most inspiring stories, come from the high school ranks and I hope to share those stories for years to come.”
