The Ironwood Ridge girl’s basketball program collected tennis shoes for the Kicks 4 Kids program this past week. The Nighthawk donation brings the total number of sneakers collected to 80 pairs.

The “Kicks 4 Kids” is program designed to collect tennis shoes so less fortunate children can participate properly in elementary school physical education programs. The South Tucson Lions Club raised almost $200 as seed money for the program.

The idea is to have high school sports teams collect one pair of sneakers per player for less fortunate kids and we would deliver them to local PE teachers or school social workers to pass out to their students as needed.

The Tucson girl’s basketball program collected shoes last Friday.

Besides the Tucson and Ironwood Ridge girl’s basketball programs, the Pusch Ridge boy’s basketball program, the Pusch Ridge soccer teams, the Salpointe girl’s soccer program, the Salpointe Lacrosse team and the Catalina Foothills boy’s basketball program have all agreed to participate.

We are hoping to raise over 500 pairs of kid’s sneakers, size 1-5, by the end of this sports season.

The shoes collected at Tucson High were delivered to Roskruge K-8 on Wednesday. The Ironwood Ridge shoes will be delivered to Keeling Elementary on Thursday.

So far, tennis shoes have been donated to Rio Vista Elementary, Holaway Elementary, Coronado K-8, Roskruge K-8, Imagine Preschool and now Keeling Elementary.
