Sahuaro went undefeated to capture the championship of the Sabino Capital Connect Tournament this past week. The Cougars jumped out to a 31-13 lead on Mingus in the championship game and held on for a 63-48 victory.

In girl’s action. Canyon del Oro senior Leila El-Ali scored 16 points to help the Dorados advance past Buena (49-43) at the Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout. El-Ali came into the game needing 10 points to reach 1,000 career points.
“I feel it’s a really good accomplishment for me,” El-Ali said. “I worked really hard to get here and we are having a good year. It means a lot to my family.”
Leila’s older sister Nadia was a senior when Leila was a freshman and the two got to play together that year. Her brother Zach plays for the boy’s team at CDO.
The Dorados will play Sahuaro in the semifinal round on Friday and Queen Creek will take on Pueblo in the other semifinal.
In soccer action, the semifinals have been set for the Walden Grove Invitational. Flowing Wells, Cienega, Sahuaro and Tucson advance on the girl’s side while Sunnyside, Nogales, Buena and Sabino will battle it out on the boy’s side. The complete schedule is listed below.
