Tucson Post 7 to play for another American Legion state championship

Tucson Post 7 swept Alhambra Post 29 in the semifinal round of the American Legion state tournament held at Cherry Field on Saturday. The Firebirds are now 13-0-1 on the year and they will play the winner of Post 8 Vista Grande and Post 133 Maricopa in the championship series scheduled for July 22-23 at Cherry Field.

Tucson beat Alhambra 23-1 on Saturday morning and 13-3 Saturday night to clinch the best-of-three playoff while Maricopa and Vista Grande split to force a third game on Sunday morning at Cherry Field.

The Firebirds are the returning champions, taking second place at the Western Regional last August in Colorado.

Metro State in Denver will host the Western Regional from August 2-6. The World Series will take place in Shelby, North Carolina from August 10-15.

Adam Moraga, Orlando Romero and Fabian Ferreira hit home runs to help pace Tucson. Ferreira hit a grand slam in the morning game.
