Ironwood Ridge standout pitcher/infielder Nick Estrella committed to Azusa Pacific on Monday.

Estrella batted .380 with 25 RBIs, nine doubles, six triples and three home runs last year while leading the Nighthawks with seven wins and 58 strikeouts in 57 innings of work.

“I was in California over the summer at an Under Armour showcase and it was held at Azusa’s field,” Estrella explained.

“The coach ended up seeing me and he called me that day. He just was consistent in communicating with me so I planned an official visit and went out to meet the coaches and players. It is in a great area and I have family ten minutes away which is good because that means I’ll have a lot of support!”

Azusa Pacific finished the year with a 34-20 record and an impressive 19-13 PacWest Conference record.

“I went on the visit and I absolutely loved it,” Estrella added. “This means the world to me because all I have ever wanted to do is play baseball at the next level in California and get a good education at the same time. Azusa is the perfect fit for me and I can’t wait!”
