YOUTH FOOTBALL: Rams use running game to beat Steelers in 9U action

The 9U Southwest Rams beat the Steelers 40-0 on Saturday morning in a game that was still in doubt at the half. Andres Acuña scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter and that 6-0 lead held up till late in the second when Nicholas Valentin-Dominguez took over.

Dominguez finished with 144 yards rushing, paced by three straight touchdown runs of 30, 41 and 61 yards to give the Rams a 26-0 lead heading into the fourth.

A 32-yard run from Matthew Augustine Montes made it 33-0 and 5-yard score from Jacob Urbina made it 40-0. Urbina finished with 76 yards rushing and Montes had 69. Dominguez, Acuña and Jesus Bravo ran in extra-point conversions and Dominguez hit Raymond Duarte on an extra point pass. Under American Youth Football (AYF) rules, running or passing is worth one extra point while kicking a field goal after a touchdown is worth two points.

Gunner Felix had 31 yards rushing, Duarte had 24 and Acuña added 20 for the Rams.

The Steelers also came up with some big performances with Da’veion Winters collecting 55 yards rushing and Kristopher Bayze finishing with 35. Yahmir Calderon, Kimani Nobles and Christopher Pussatrie saw some running action and Benito Dixon recovered a fumble for the Steelers.
