The clouds seemingly came from nowhere but soon, the lightning strikes were everywhere. Here, there and everywhere.
The postponements came one at a time, starting with Sahuaro on the far east side, and they came rolling like thunder across the valley. In all, nine schedule changes have been reported.
Still, we had 12 final scores, including Salpointe beating Dobson 56-7 with the game called at the half. A major obstacle in rescheduling for a Saturday slate is the availability of referees due to youth football duties on that day but that problem was erased after the Tucson Youth Football & Spirit Federation (TYFSF) cancelled all of their games.
“The safety of our players, cheerleaders, volunteers and fans are our utmost priority,” TYFSF Commissioner, Julius Holt said in a release. “The weather forecast has been pretty consistent in calling for a good chance of rain and thunderstorms. This coupled with game official availability due to Friday night high school football games being moved to Saturday. We thought it was best to make the call tonight to give the numerous groups involved in the games, including our teams, our fans, our media partners and staff, notice of the cancellation as soon as possible”
