No. 16 Arizona beat CSUN on Sunday, 9-0 in five innings, on the final day of the Hillenbrand Invitational, the last round of non-conference games before starting the Pac-12 season this Friday at Arizona State.
The Sun Devils (15-3) swept the Wildcats last season at Hillenbrand. The first game is at 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
Every Pac-12 team has a winning record to this point in the non-conference season except Oregon State, which is 9-11.
Arizona, which went 4-1 in the Hillenbrand Invitational, scored nine runs on 10 hits with eight RBIs against CSUN.
Olivia DiNardo went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and a walk.
Devyn Netz, Izzy Pacho and Carlie Scupin each went 2-for-3. Netz tallied three RBIs on a single and a home run.
Arizona started strong, scoring five runs in the first. Allie Skaggs brought in the first run on an bases-loaded walk and Netz followed with an RBI single. Pacho drove in a run with an RBI single and Taylor Biehl had a sacrifice fly to score Arizona’s fifth run of the inning.
Arizona scored four more in the fourth to extend the lead to 9-0. DiNardo hit a two-RBI double and Netz hit a two-run home run – her sixth homer of the season.
Netz picked up her seventh win to improve to 7-5 in the circle. She allowed only three hits and struck out six Matadors – including five-straight swinging strikeouts to open the game.
