2023 football: 50 top Southern Arizona seniors — CDO free safety/wide receiver Chase Laux

Today marks only 24 days until the kickoff of the 2023 Southern Arizona high school football season with games scheduled Aug. 18. AllSportsTucson.com is listing 50 of the top seniors in Southern Arizona during this stretch. This is not a ranking. We acknowledge more than 50 quality seniors will play on high school fields locally this fall and we will report on them accordingly.

Chase Laux, 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, does nearly everything for CDO coach Dustin Peace — rushes, receives, returns punts and kicks and plays in the defensive secondary. … His skill level merited him last season being the 4A Kino Defensive Player of the Year, as voted by coaches. … As a free safety, he had 60 tackles last season, three for loss. He also had an interception and deflected four passes. … He rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown and he caught 11 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown. … He also is a two-time All-4A Kino First-Team selection as a free safety.

CDO coach Dustin Peace on Laux: “Chase Laux is one of the best leaders this program has ever had. He was almost a captain his sophomore year which would have made him the only ever three-time captain in the past 30 years at CDO. His level of work ethic, discipline and ability inspire his teammates all packaged together, I have never seen coaching in my 21 years at CDO. He will do everything for us on both sides of the ball this year. For people that know Jared Tevis, he is the second coming but even stronger. At 165 pounds, he squats 415 (pounds), benches 290 and cleans 270. Those are outrageous numbers, not to mention he has a GPA over 4.00. Not putting any pressure on him but he will be one of the elite leaders our city has ever produced.”
